Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 consists of Backup proxy servers, Backup Proxy Pools, Backup Local repositories, and Object storage repositories. These are configured as locations for Microsoft 365 backup data. These can be configured on-premises, in the cloud, or in a hybrid configuration.
Windows Backup proxy servers are auxiliary servers that you can configure to improve performance, scalability, and flexibility.
1. Login to the Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 Manager server.
2. Open the Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 console and click Connect.

3. On the Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 console page, select Backup Infrastructure.

4. On the Backup Infrastructure page, right-click Backup Proxies and select Add backup proxy.

5. Select Microsoft Windows on the Proxy server operating system page and click Next.

6. In the Host field, enter a DNS name or IP address of a computer you want to use as a backup proxy server, select Use domain network and click Next.

7. On the Specify credentials to connect to the proxy server page, select Use the following account, enter the user name and password and click Next. The account must be a member of the Local Administrator group.

9. Select the Local System account on the Specify account to run the proxy services and click Next.

10. Please ensure to download and install the Microsoft .NET Runtime 8.0 on the proxy server.

11. Please ensure to download and install the Microsoft Windows PowerShell 7.4.2 or later version on the proxy server.

12. Click Finish.

13. Verify that the Microsoft Windows Backup proxy server has been added.
